Advanced Certification Institute Postgraduate Institute for Medicine

Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of healthcare providers involved in the care of patients with life-threatening situations including cardiac and respiratory arrest.

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

BLS

  • Recognize Cardiac Arrest
  • Activate the Emergency response system
  • Perform CPR with 1 or 2 rescuers for a victim of cardiac arrest
  • Perform CPR for an adult, child, or infant victim
  • Use an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Provide rescue breathing for a victim of respiratory arrest
  • Provide emergency care for the choking victim
  • Understand how CPR and BLS will be integrated with Advanced Life Support

ACLS
Realize that Advanced Cardiac Life Support focuses on basic and advanced treatment of cardiac emergencies and stroke and is part of an overall system to improve survival. Understand that to maximize survival each component of the system must work effectively including:

  • Early recognition of arrest and identification of basic EKG rhythms
  • Early activation of the emergency response system
  • Ability to recognize bradyarrhythmias and tachyarrhythmias that may result in cardiac arrest and their appropriate treatments
  • Early CPR
  • Early Defibrillation
  • High quality advanced life support with ongoing assessment of CPR quality, monitoring patient’s response to treatment, and delivering feedback to the resuscitation team
  • Effective post-arrest care

PALS
Realize the goal of Pediatric Advanced Life Support is to improve the quality of care for seriously ill or injured children to achieve the best possible outcome through:

  • Knowledge of the early sign and symptoms of impending cardiopulmonary arrest and preventative interventions
  • The systematic approach to pediatric patient assessment through primary and secondary assessment and diagnostic interventions
  • Knowledge of appropriate interventions for infants and children for cardiopulmonary emergencies
  • Knowledge of how to perform high quality CPR and respiratory care
  • Knowledge of how to select the appropriate monitoring, drug and electrical therapy for various arrhythmias
  • Knowledge of how to establish rapid vascular access
  • Ability to describe the appropriate post-resuscitation management of the pediatric patient
  • Understand how to be an effective team member or leader through appropriate communication and team dynamics

Are your courses accredited?

Yes, through a joint providership with the Postgraduate Institute for Medicine, the courses are accredited for AMA, ANCC, ACPE, and ADA credit.

How do I get my CME certificate after I have completed a certification?

After completing one of our certifications you will be prompted to claim your CME credits through CME University. A link will be provided to their site where you will need to create a new account or log into an existing account you may have with them. In order to receive your certificate, you will be asked to complete a short evaluation regarding the course. You will then be able to download a CME certificate immediately. You can return to www.cmeuniversity anytime in the future to print another certificate if necessary.

I already completed a course with Advanced Certification Institute in the past; can I still receive CME credit?

We are sorry but we are unable to offer CME credits for our certifications that were completed prior to our joint provider relationship with the Postgraduate Institute for Medicine. That means that we can only offer credits for courses completed after 4-15-2017.

How will I receive my CME certificate?

All CME credits are awarded by CME University. Once you pass the certification test you will be directed to the CME University website. After completing a brief evaluation, you can download your CME certificate immediately and anytime in the future is desired
